The Belt Guard Cover Care CC222 is a device that is able to measure the thickness of a cover on steel cord conveyor belting. The belt must be stationary at the time of measurement. It is a portable instrument which is powered by a re-chargeable internal 12Volt-1.3Ah battery and has an endurance of approximately nine (9) hours on a full charge. It uses an inductive hand-held probe to detect the steel cords. The output from the probe is delivered to a microprocessor which calculates the distance of the probe face to the top of the cords, using a unique algorithm or 'CC222 belt profile' and displays the value in mm on an easy-to-read display. Unlike ultrasonic instruments used for the same purpose, no coupling medium is necessary and the measurement accuracy is not effected by ambient temperature or differing cover compounds. The probe output varies, not only with cover thickness, but from belt to belt depending on the physical makeup of the belt carcass. For this reason, a CC222 belt profile is needed for each type of belt being measured. The profiles are easily created using a small sample of the target belting and are saved for future use. For accurate results, the correct profile must be used for the belt being measured. Measurement resolution is +/- 0.1 mm. The CC222 compliments the Belt Guard Cover Care RCT instruments, by allowing determination of the shape of the wear profile in any belt cover. The inductive probe is designed to sense steel plate, not a steel rope matrix as found in the carcass of a steel cord belt. Obviously, an ST 6800 heavy duty belt with large diameter cords placed close together will look more like a steel plate than a light-weight say ST 800 rated belt. For this reason, the instrument must be calibrated and linearised to suit each target belting. Calibration of the instrument is simple and unambiguous, using a small sample of the target belting and plastic shims. CC222 Belt Profiles can be stored in any convenient file folder on a Laptop, PC, tablet or external USB memory device. Communication between the instrument and computer is via USB. A technique is available where multiple belts of varying ST ratings can be measured with the one Belt Profile and then ‘calibrated’ at a later time using suitable belt samples.
